Counted Cross-Stitch

Products

Counted cross-stitch is worked from a chart by counting stitches and does not have stamping on the fabric being used. Whether you’re picking up a needle and floss for the first time or have been cross-stitching for years, there are cross-stitch charts and kits for all skill levels. If you’re new to cross-stitch, look for a design that uses 14-ct. aida, which is a popular choice for beginners. Aida is also available in 16-ct., 18-ct., and 20-ct., as well as counts lower than 14.

Lower count sizes are generally easier for beginner stitchers; the higher the count size, the more challenging the stitching will be. If you have experience cross-stitching, try stitching on evenweave or linen. These popular fabrics have higher counts (22-ct. and up) for finer stitching.

When looking at counted cross-stitch designs, make sure to note whether it is a kit, chart and fabric, or chart. A counted cross-stitch kit will contain the chart, fabric, and floss needed to complete the design. Items listed as a chart and fabric will include the chart and recommended fabric (you’ll need to supply the floss). Likewise, a design listed as a chart will only include the chart, though recommended fabric and floss colors needed will be indicated.
