"Enjoy endless summer fun with our Crocheted Water Balloons! This eco-friendly and reusable pattern creates soft and colorful balloons that can be “filled” with water for a splash-tastic time in the sun."

Skill Level:

Beginner

Finished size:

4 × 6"

Materials:

Sundance™ Sassy Spray - Pink Pop or color of choice

Note: One ball will make 4 water balloons.

You will need:

Size L-11 (8mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge

Tapestry needle

GUAGE:

8 sc × 7 rnds = 4"

Stitch Guide:

Chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc)
sc2tog (single crochet 2 together): (Insert hook in next st, yo, pull lp through) twice, yo, pull through all lps on hook. (1 st decreased)

magic ring: Form a circle with tail end of the yarn on the left side of the circle. Insert hook in center of circle and yo from yarn that is attached to the ball, pull through center and ch 1. Follow instructions in pat. When you have finished completing the number of sts that the pat calls for, slowly pull tail end to close the circle.

PATTERN NOTE:

• Work all pieces in a continuous spiral. Place marker in first sc and move up each rnd.

• The hook is smaller than usual for this weight of yarn to create a tighter stitch that will help hold water.

Directions:

Rnd 1: Make a magic circle and work 6 sc into center of circle.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)

Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)

Rnds 4-5: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)

Rnd 6: *Sc2tog in next st, sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (12 sts)

Rnd 7: *Sc2tog in next st, sc in next st; rep from * 4 more times. (8 sts)

Rnd 8: Sc in each st around. (8 sts)

Rnd 9: Sl st in next st, *ch 3, sl st in next st; rep from * 7 more times.

Fasten off, leaving an 8" tail.

Thread tail end onto tapestry needle and feed up into the balloon and out between a st on Rnd 8. Weave the yarn around the balloon “neck” and cinch tight. Tie a knot around wrapped yarn and feed yarn end back into the balloon to hide end before removing needle.

For a good water balloon battle, make at least 3-5 balloons per person.

TO USE:
Outside, fill a tub with water. Place all finished balloons in the tub and squeeze and release them a few times to saturate with water before letting the battle begin! When finished, air-dry or tumble-dry thoroughly.
