Afghan Contest

2022 National Afghan Contest Winners. Grand Champion and Holiday.

Join Herrschners' History

The Herrschners National Afghan Contest has been a showcase of customer talent for over 30 years. The first contest, held at the 1991 Iowa State Fair, featured over 700 afghans from stitchers in 46 states. “Best of Show” was awarded in three categories: cross-stitch, knit, and crochet. The cross-stitch category was eliminated over time, and the contest now focuses on knit and crochet afghans.

Today, the annual contest has five categories: knit, crochet, juvenile, baby, and holiday. One winner is chosen in each category, with one winner named grand champion. Occasionally, one standout design is handpicked by the CEO of Herrschners to receive the prestigious President’s Award. Winners receive a monetary prize (grand champion earns $3,000!), have their name featured in the catalog with their award-winning afghan, and become a part of Herrschners history.

All aspiring afghan designers are encouraged to enter their original designs. Send in the completed entry form and fee by June 15. You’ll receive an entry tag in return, to send in with your completed afghan by July 1.
